A list tells you what you have. A portfolio tells you what it's worth, what you paid for it, and whether that gap is currently in your favor. Most collectors start with the first kind — a notes app, a spreadsheet, a memory — because it's the easy version to start.
The jump to the second kind isn't about getting more organized for its own sake. It's that a list can't answer "am I up or down on this," and a portfolio can, because it's carrying cost basis and current market value side by side on every pair, totalled across everything you own.
CYKI is built as the second kind from the start — not a place to log what you have, but a place that already knows what it's worth, updated against real sales rather than a number you'd have to go look up and copy over yourself.
It also means the number doesn't need translating. "Up 12% since March" already says something a spreadsheet column full of purchase dates never quite manages on its own — it's the answer, not raw material for one.
